What is Slow Fashion?
Slow Fashion is a way to produce and to do fashion that is opposite to the fast fashion, the trend in fashion imposed the last years by the brands of Amancio Ortega, that is the Grupo Inditex, and brands like H&M and Primark. Slow Fashion is a conscious and sustainable fashion, where less collection are created in a year and where the production respects the rhythms of the planet, which are slower than the needs of the market. On the opposite, fast fashion moves following the trend and the needs of the market.
Slow Fashion adheres to a more conscious lifestyle and to a type of production that not produces waste. This type of production promotes a new paradigm: a circular economy, where products are exploited until the end, trying to give to them a maximum use. This way of production “zero waste” keeps in mind the environment and it tries to boost a more conscious way of consuming.
Nina Mochila tries to have a positive impact in this sense and it tries to promote through its creations slow fashion and a fashion with cultural and social meaning. Our Wayuu bags are made with love and they are “objects” with feeling and soul, that passion and that soul that Wayuu women give to her creations. Nina Mochila proposal is a proposal of textile art: Wayuu bags are unique and each bag has a specific concept, a deep meaning connected to the universe and a meaning of love for nature.
Our main purpose is to empower the Wayuu Community and support its local economy through the fair trade of these Wayuu bags. We would like to preserve the traditions Wayuu, promoting their art globally and in this way contributing to improve their life conditions.
