What does it means “boho chic style”?
The expression boho chic is composed by two opposite words: boho and chic. The boho chic concerns a style that is a mix of different styles, a style that combines vintage and modern, classic and ethnic, chic and boho. Boho is an abbreviation of a French word “bohèmien” or “bohème”, which means gipsy, referring to a person that does not follow the rules, does not follow fashion and that dresses on behalf of life values: freedom and search of harmony. Bohème refers also to the lifestyle of the XIX century French artists (poets, writers, painters, musicians), who lived of their art and travelled a lot. Another definition of boho is the one of the American journalist David Brooks, who defined boho as the fusion of “bourgeois bohèmien” in order to define those customers that care about ecology and human rights. These customers love art and take care of their soul. In contraposition to boho, chic is another French word that refers to elegance and class.
The expression boho chic was born between 2003 and 2004, when the look boho chic was born for the influence of actress Sienna Miller, model Kate Moss and Olsen twins. From fashion, this style concerns nowadays a lifestyle.
