The Wayuu Community is an example of a community culturally and socially strong. Despite all adversities that it has had to face, it has proved that an indigenous community can be true to its origins and preserve its culture and its traditions along the years. This community has faced adversities for two reasons: for the natural conditions of the Peninsula Guajira and for social reasons, of discrimination and violence.

The Guajira Peninsula
The Community of the Wayuu lives in the Guajira Peninsula, a region of sun, sand and wind. This region is arid and sandy; for this reason, this community has had to face and continues to face nowadays adversities regarding the lack of water, situation that has been the cause of many diseases and infections. This complicated relationship with nature is at the same time a relationship of devotion and respect and it is reflected in the patterns and designs that Wayuu women weave on the Wayuu bags.
Historical heritage
Despite the regional and national processes that it has faced, this indigenous community of Colombia has kept its own culture and its own traditions, turning its cultural and historical heritage into the main factor of social inclusion thanks to the fair and sustainable trade of its products. This activity has allowed to this community to combine the traditional and the modern, to express the beliefs of Wayuu people, their visions of life and their relationship with nature and the universe in the bags that Wayuu women weave with a lot of passion and dedication.
